Graded In-class Activity 1: Blog Setup and Learning Styles

My prior experience using technology is rather limited. I would rather read and write than use my laptop or phone. I have an online personal blog already and that is about all I do online. I do not have a twitter and I rarely use Instagram. I prefer and enjoy personal interaction more. In previous classes I have used technology by creating a PowerPoint for projects, emailing other students and teachers and I have had to get used to using Blackboard and Canvas as reference sites for college courses. In high school I almost never went online to my courses to check for dates I would email, talk to other students or write down dates/assignments/projects as they were talked about in class. I do use my phone quite often to communicate with friends that I have around the globe and that is also the main reason I have Instagram; to keep up-to-date with them.

In class I hope to learn more about the ways to use technology because I usually do not prefer technology to teach or learn. I hope at least one technological way that I will like to teach students that intrigues me as a teacher so that I can be involved with students. I also hope to learn more specific details about Excel because I am not familiar at all and to learn how to do more with PowerPoint since that is one of the most common ways teachers promote student learning to technology. I hope this class will help me learn how to be “up to date” with technology advancements within the education system that I may not already know about.

My learning style is rather moderate. For two of the categories I am well balanced and the other two categories I was considered moderate. I learned that I am more active than reflective, which makes sense to me considering I have always liked to play sports and learn new things by being part of the hands-on aspect of the subject. I have almost no difference between visual and verbal learning as well as being intuitive or sensible. I would consider myself very well-rounded and I think that is why I do not have a significant difference or preference between the learning style categories. The one category that surprised me was that I was more sequential than global. I thought that I would be either closer to the middle or more global by understanding the whole idea before understanding the little details involved.
